Zilina: Oravsky Castle Tour

We will take you 70 km east from Zilina, to the marvellous Orava Castle. Oravsky Castle is considered to be one of the most impressive castles of Slovakia. It was rebuilt several times and had various owners. The castle was erected on a high rock above the river of Orava after the Mongol invasion of Hungary in 1241. In 1800, the castle was burnt down and stayed useless for a long time until Francis Zichy reconstructed it and now the castle houses one of the oldest Slovakian museums offering historical exhibitions. The castle’s location is probably even more important factor attracting so many tourists. The views of picturesque vast area of green fields, forests, river and hills stretching from the castle will delight you with its beauty and charm. During standard tour around the castle complex, you will see one of three preserved gates, main courtyard, representative room of Thurzo’s Palace, Knight’s hall, the oldest and the highest part of Orava Castle – Citadel and much more.
