Banska Bystrica Old Town Walk
Banska Bystrica was one of the richest mining towns in Slovakia. The history of the city dates back to the 12th century and the city’s development was strongly dependant on mining of mineral resources: gold, silver, iron ore and copper. We offer you a city walking tour during which our professional guide will try to tell you a few words about the city’s history and will take you to the most important places.
During our tour you will admire the gem of the Banska Bystrica which is the Main Square surrounded by colorful charming buildings. You will take a pleasant walk along the Dolna Street and you will see many interesting sights such as: the house of the first pharmacy of the town, the Bethlen House where the prince Gabriel Bethlen was crowned, Matthias Bel’s house as well as the oldest building in Dolná street – the Church of St. Elisabeth. The other remarkable attraction of Banska Bistryca it is the Castle complex situated on the Stefana Moyzesa Square. The castle’s surrounding area includes a parish church and fortifications, the 15th century Church of the Holy Cross, as well as a Barbican with a tower.
